Emmy hears advice

October 20, 784, Linnesse, Meliora

“Thank you for covering for me today.”

The strange boy who had introduced himself as Philipp shrugged good-naturedly. “It’s nothing, really. I hardly could have the old magister chew you out for wanting to learn, can I?”

Emmy smiled. “Still. You could get into so much trouble because of me…”

“Really, don’t mention it.” Philipp said. “I may not completely understand why anyone would want to go back into school when they no longer have to, but it’s still not fair to be denied this.”

“Uh-huh… Father can’t pay for that kind of education – or at least he can’t for all of us, so none of us get to go. And I’m not sure if I want to follow Tamika’s example and join the temple for the kind of education I want.”

Philipp nodded. “I understand completely. But… What if you could find someone to sponsor you?”

“Well, you see, there’s a Nightmare employed to the emperor.” He explained. “Well, at least it is said he is employed by him, though I’ve never seen him do any kind of work that would be required by royals. And I’ve also heard through the grapevine that one of the sons of the Ummert family who they had previously disowned was helped by Nightmares.”

Emmy hated to admit it, but she couldn’t make any sense about this talk of “families” and “disownment” and “Nightmares”. So her next reply was a simple, confused: “What.”

Philipp cringed and crossed his arms. “Sorry. I guess I went off on a tangent again. The bottom line is that Nightmares have been known to give help to humans in the past. Maybe you could get this one to help you, too. I bet as a courtier at the emperor’s court, he must have more than enough money and he seems to live very frugal.”

“I … guess I could try that.” Emmy replied, a bit unsure of herself. Asking a human would have been difficult enough, but a Nightmare? Particularly one as antisocial as the emperor’s confidant. And she would have to get her parents’ approval, too…

“It was just an idea.” He continued with a shrug of his shoulders. “But I think the only problem that Nightmare has is with the nobility. Since you’re not a noble, he should be much more amiable towards you.”

Emmy, or Emilia, was last seen as a child antagonising her older half-brother at the very beginning of this story. She recently grew up and rolled Knowledge (if I remember correctly, too lazy to go look right now ^^‘) which is kind of a dead end for her class (worker) as they only go to elementary school.
